Berkeley Middle School was selected as this year’s recipient for the Lowe’s Heroes Project Grant. Awarded annually, this grant offers Lowe’s employees an opportunity to team with an organization and make a difference in the community. According to Lowe’s Pro Service Specialist, Jenny Bradford, the goal of the program is simply to make our community a better place to live.

Lowe’s donated materials and local Williamsburg store employees volunteered their time and talents on Monday to build an outdoor classroom for Berkeley students. Included in the project was beautification of the school’s exterior and building a structure for teachers to hold class in an outdoor space. The crew painted existing planters and benches and replaced the plants with evergreens to beautify the grounds. Vinyl privacy fencing was installed to secure a classroom space free of distractions. In addition, the crew built picnic tables for seating and three large planters for sustainable plants to be grown.

Special thanks to Lowe’s and all of the volunteers for their hard work and commitment to getting the job done on a shortened schedule due to the weather. WJCC is honored that Berkeley Middle School was selected as a Lowe’s Heroes Grant recipient.
